Durham

Hello and welcome to Durham House! I’m Mrs Jones, the houseparent, alongside my husband (who teaches Economics) and our two boys, Sam (12) and Harry (10). We have just arrived at Kingham Hill and are loving getting to know the area, having moved from Sheffield where we have lived for many years. I have been teaching English for over 20 years and I’m enjoying the new role of houseparent.

Our family loves to be outdoors; walking, cycling and camping and you will often see (and hear!) our boys on the Astro pitches. I also love reading, craft, games and especially baking, which I hope to involve the girls in as we get to know each other.

We know that it can be a big change leaving home to come and share life in a boarding house and we believe that a family setting is the best environment for students to grow and thrive. We want to make Durham feel like home and to build relationships that feel like ‘family’. It’s important that each girl is known and cared for individually and that the boarding house is a place to relax and be nurtured. Our matron and tutors are a big part of this also.

As well as growing academically, we would love to encourage you all to develop in character too. We want Durham to be a place where each girl develops individually and works collectively to create a positive atmosphere where there is mutual respect and encouragement. We hope that you find Durham to be a place of safety, security and encouragement where you are loved, accepted and reminded of your enormous worth and value as well as a place where you to continue to grow and develop, to become all that you can be.

We look forward to welcoming you here!
