Latimer

The Founder of Kingham Hill School, Charles Edward Baring Young, purchased Latimer House, Fitzroy Square in London, 10 March 1894. On leaving school, some pupils would live at Latimer and work in the City, learn a trade or become an apprentice.

The book of his life states that, ‘Latimer fulfilled all the hopes and designs of its founder. Here a young man found a pleasant boarding house, a good club and a Christian home’. Although not in London (and not for boys!), I feel in choosing the name Latimer for the new day girls’ house, we are endeavouring to continue this vision and provide the same ‘pleasant house’, a good ‘community’ and a Christian home with which the Founder would be pleased.
