How to Apply

Kingham Hill School welcomes children who wish to join our friendly, thriving school, and make the most of the endless opportunities to excel both in and out of the classroom.

We do not select pupils on the basis of current academic achievement alone. We are looking to identify pupils who are likely to flourish, both academically and personally, if offered a place.

Visit and Interview

If a private visit is arranged, either as a first visit or following an Open Day, the Headmaster, or occasionally in his absence, the Deputy Headmaster, meets each family. If formally applying for a place, an informal interview forms the first part of the application process.

Registration

Before the school is able to take an application further, prospective families need to complete a registration form (below) and return it, along with a non-returnable deposit, to Mrs Helen Cope, Registrar.

Assessment

Pupils applying for a place are invited for an assessment at the school. The assessment consists of tests in English, Mathematics and general reasoning skills. School reports from the child's current school are also requested, unless the school is instructed otherwise.

Those applying for scholarships take the same papers, but are expected to get higher results. They are also expected to attend our special Scholarship Day in the Michaelmas term to demonstrate their specialism and to be interviewed by the Headmaster.

Assessment Days are held throughout the year in small groups and can be booked in advance with the Registrar. The assessments (for which no revision is required), and which do not have a definite pass or fail mark, are used to give help the school understand the academic ability of the pupil and also to determine whether Kingham Hill School is the best school for the applicant. Those from preparatory schools normally take Kingham Hill tests, but may also take the Common Entrance Examination.

Those attending also have a chance to get to know the school and other applicants, as well as meet pupils and staff, and enjoy the wonderful setting and facilities so they can get a feel of life here at the school.

Overseas Applications

Pupils from overseas who are unable to visit, but would like to be considered for a place at the school, can be assessed via online testing and copies of school reports.Interviews can also be held via Skype. You can find out more about being an international pupil here.

Offer

Once pupils have taken assessment tests and have been interviewed by the Headmaster a letter will be issued stating whether the school is able to offer a place. The place is secured once the school has received the acceptance form and deposit.
