UNDER 14’s ‘A’ ROUNDERS REPORT

The Year 9 girls have a reputation as one of the best year groups in the school – so they had a lot to live up to!

After a week practising we faced our first opponents – Bloxham!  It was a fantastic match with the dynamic bowler, backstop, first base combination of Libby, Charlie and Katie getting many of the Bloxham girls out on their first ball.  A superb demonstration of fielding skills saw our U14 A team beat Bloxham 15 – 9!  High standards had been set early on!

Additional results have included:
A loss to Chipping Campden 14 – 10.
A win v Cokethorpe 16 – 15.
U14 A .v. Bloxham U16’s lost 8 – 4 ½.
A loss to Cotswold 15 – 6 ½.

Unfortunately quite a few matches were cancelled due to rain and a tournament didn’t happen due to other schools pulling out.

There is real potential within this team and the girls gel well together.  As they get stronger their batting skills will improve and more rounders will be scored, also their deep-fielding will improve with longer, more powerful throws.  However, their tight fielding at the posts is already very good and something to further develop and refine next year.

Thanks to Libby for Captaining the team, and to the squad of players: Charlie, Katie, Georgia, Sophie A, Leya, Alice, Sophie L, Tanaka, Emily and Rachel for their efforts this term!

Player of the Season goes to Sophie Laing for her excellent deep fielding and batting.

Most Improved Player goes to Sophie Asquith who became more confident as the term progressed – getting two people out with a catch and a stump on 3rd post!
