Why should I choose this subject

For the ambitious, History is a blue riband subject. Those who study History are highly regarded by universities and employers because they have demonstrated the ability to think critically and communicate clearly. For the enlightened, History is all about intellectual curiosity, knowing what happened in the past and trying to discern why things happened is interesting and enjoyable. 

What does the subject consist of?

  • Paper 1 (30%). A thematic study based on the history of warfare and British society, c1250-present. Pupils will also undertake a historic environment study based on London and the Second World War. The exam is 1 hour and 20 minutes in duration.
  • Paper 2 (40%). Combines a British depth study on the reigns of King Richard and King John, 1189-1216 with a period study based on superpower relations and the Cold War, 1941-1991. The exam is 1 hour and 45 minutes in duration.
  • Paper 3 (30%). Comprises of a modern depth study based on Russia and the Soviet Union, 1917-1941. The exam is 1 hour and 15 minutes in duration.
