Geography
Geography is the study of places and the relationships between people and their environments. Throughout Forms 1-3 pupils' learning in Geography will help them be more socially and environmentally sensitive, better informed and more responsible citizens.
Teachers will get them to think more deeply about human geography - the understanding of the dynamics of cultures, societies and economies. For example in the topic on world population pupils will be asked to think about why the population is growing and how sustainable this is, where population is growing quickly, what the global impacts of people on planet earth are and how this could change in the future.
In physical geography, teachers will help pupils understand the dynamics of landscapes and the environment; for example, why there are waves in the sea and how a beach is formed. We all know that climate change is causing sea levels to rise but pupils will be asked to think about what could be done to manage this and how they themselves might be affected if they lived near a coastline.
Pupils will learn all of this within the context of different places around the world - recognising the great differences in cultures, economies, landscapes and environments across the world and exploring links between them.
