Mathematics & Further Mathematics

Our Mathematics Department is dedicated to ensuring all pupils enjoy the subject and are continually challenged and supported to succeed. Many pupils enjoy the variety that this subject has to offer and find it interesting to explore the different branches of Mathematics.

Mathematics is taught throughout the school from Year 7 to Year 11 when all pupils take the new 9-1 Edexcel GCSE Higher Level Mathematics. Pupils are set by ability, and these sets are reviewed regularly to ensure that pupils are challenged.

Pupils are also encouraged to take part in the UK Junior, Intermediate and Senior Mathematics Challenges, and the department endeavours to foster a love for the subject by offering a problem-solving club and the increasingly popular chess club.

Many continue to study the subject in the Sixth Form and beyond, where we offer Edexcel A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics. The subject is valued by both universities and employers and it is a key skill required for careers in Engineering, Economics, Computing and Science. Recent Kingham Hill School leavers have gone on to study Mathematics and Mathematics based degrees at universities including Imperial College London, Bristol, Southampton and Eindhoven.

Currently there are five full-time and two part-time teachers of Mathematics in the department with many years of teaching at Kingham Hill. Our Mathematics team bring a large amount of knowledge with degrees from Cambridge, Liverpool, Surrey, Griffith and Royal Military College of Science.
