From Year 7 to 13 all pupils at Kingham Hill School are given the opportunity to participate in Physical Education as part of their timetable through team matches in rugby, hockey, football, netball and cricket as well as a variety of sports in the extra-curricular activities. Having Physical Education as part of the timetable from Year 7 allows pupils to gain a range skills whilst learning how each sport can help them lead a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
Physical Education is offered at both GCSE and A level and is a vibrant subject, which provides pupils with a well-rounded and full introduction to the world of PE, sport and sport science. Pupils will develop their understanding of how the mind and body works in relation to performance in physical activity. With a heavy emphasis upon science, pupils are able to explore the intricacies of the human body and the effects of exercise upon this as well as exploring strategies and mechanisms used by top athletes to achieve peak performance.
Mr Cartwright leads our Physical Education department with Director of Sport, Mrs Rigby also teaching the subject at GCSE and A level. The department is supported by peripatetic coaches and the teaching staff body when teaching numerous sports in our extra-curricular provisions.
