Bursaries

Dean Close Kingham Hill School offers bursarial support in a variety of ways, currently including transformational bursaries for Year 7 entry. Please see below for more information.

General Bursarial Support

In addition to Transformational Bursaries, the Dean Close Foundation offers a limited number of bursaries each year to pupils who would benefit from a Kingham Hill education but who are unable to afford the full fees. The number of children that we are able to help is limited to funds provided by the Foundation.

Bursaries are only available for pupils normally resident in the UK, for a maximum of 40% of fees and are means tested. In cases of particular need, the school can suggest a number of grant making trusts that may offer additional bursaries.

Bursary applications are made through our secure online portal. You will be required to create an account, through which you can submit and upload all the information required. For more information on bursary funding, please contact Mathew Madeley, Parent Finance Manager at mmadeley@deanclose.org.uk.

Please note that in order to apply for a Bursary, your child must be formally registered for a place at the school, or a current pupil.

Transformational Bursaries (Year 7 Entry)

140 years ago, philanthropist Charles Edward Baring Young founded Kingham Hill with a clear and generous vision: to provide opportunity and direction to young people of promise, regardless of background. Kingham Hill is proud of its founding purpose, which continues to shape its outlook and set it apart from many independent schools today.

In 2026, to celebrate our one year anniversary of joining the Dean Close Foundation, we are proud to honour that legacy through a new, life-changing bursary programme, designed to open our doors to exceptional young people who might otherwise not have the chance to benefit from a Kingham Hill education. These Transformational Bursaries go beyond financial support; they offer the opportunity to unlock potential, build confidence, and shape a future filled with possibility.

Who is this for?

We are looking for outstanding pupils currently in Year 6 who demonstrate:

  • Academic promise or intellectual curiosity
  • Strong character, resilience, or leadership potential
  • A willingness to contribute fully to school life

Bursaries are means-tested, ensuring support goes to families who need it most.

What is offered?

  • Significant financial support, tailored to individual circumstances
  • Access to a broad, enriching education
  • Opportunities in sport, arts, leadership, and personal development
  • A supportive, values-driven day and boarding school community

Each award is flexible in value, reflecting the needs of the family and the potential of the child.

Why Kingham Hill?

For 140 years, Kingham Hill has been committed to transforming lives through education. Last year, the school became part of the Dean Close Foundation, placing it within a stable, forward-looking family of schools, and providing long-term security, shared expertise, and greater opportunities for pupils.

Set in 105 acres of stunning Cotswold countryside, Kingham Hill offers the perfect environment in which to study, relax, and be active. The school combines small class sizes with excellent facilities, including modern science laboratories and a state-of-the-art Sports Centre. Its unique campus also features a working school farm, alongside opportunities such as the Combined Cadet Force, helping pupils build resilience, teamwork, and practical skills.

Just as importantly, Kingham Hill is consistently praised for its outstanding pastoral care and community-focused environment where pupils feel known, valued, and encouraged to achieve their full potential.
