Duke of Edinburgh Award
At Kingham Hill School we give every pupil the opportunity to complete their Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Silver and Gold Award! In the spirit of the Award it is a voluntary activity but we do encourage pupils to participate as will give them credit for many of the other activities they will join throughout their time on the Hill. They will need to fulfill 4 sections at Silver and 5 sections at Gold: Voluntary, Skills, Physical, Expedition and, for Gold only, a Residential section.
Due to the commitment required for the Expedition section we conduct these in 4th Form (Year 10) and Lower 6th Form (Year 12), thereby avoiding the exam years. Assuming participants have NOT conducted their Bronze Award elsewhere, then the Silver Award will take 12 months. Once they have completed this, the Gold Award will take a further 12 months (18 months if the Silver is not complete).
To quote the DofE Organisation: "Through a DofE programme young people have fun, make friends, improve their self-esteem and build confidence. They gain essential skills and attributes for work and life such as resilience, problem-solving, team-working, communication and drive, enhancing CVs and uni and job applications".
We hope all pupils will consider this a worthwhile activity.
