Roofing begins

The crane returned this week to lift the base structure for the roof into place.  After the safety netting and scaffolding were installed, the stacks of roofing were lifted up and the first pieces were secured to the accommodation building on Friday.  The bricklayers and ground workers have also returned and the path around the building now looks 'path-like' - if that is not stating the obvious!

The surface now visible will eventually all be hidden, but it is great to see a roof going on nonetheless. Currently the beams are stacked up in piles and they are then lifted and moved into place. Watching the contractors walk along the ridge line is fascinating and certainly not a job for those with vertigo.

At ground level, the paths have been levelled, ready for the three layers of different materials that will form the base and top surface to be laid. In the Sports Hall, the position of the netball post fixing points are marked out in red, as these will need to be cut into the slab before the final floor finish is laid. From the rear (below), the scale of the building is apparent, and the line that will become the join between the stonework level and the cladding is visible (the horizontal support that runs around the main hall).

The insulation and cement have arrived, so next week will see a continuation in roofing, bricklaying and exterior landscaping.

Sunny February has finished, but we hope March will be kind to us and allow us to continue at the current pace.
