3D Printing, Community and Teamwork at KHS

Last week Anna, our catering manager, asked for help from the KHS community to gather supplies to support the NHS (Anna's sister is a GP in Gloucestershire).

Health workers are at increased risk compared to the rest of the population with Covid-19 as it is made worse by viral load; the more virus you are exposed to the greater the risk. Equipment that is needed includes:

  • Scientific quality eye goggles
  • FFP3 masks
  • Disposable plastic overalls (not aprons)
  • Headbands and Visors

The shortage of headbands and visors resulted in Anna creating her own solution last week.  Her sister is pictured below wearing a donated mask and one of Anna's makeshift visors.

Dug in our DT department joined the effort by using the resources we have in stock (there is no re-supply chain) to 3D print the headband section of the face masks.  These are durable and can be disinfected for re-use whilst the acetates or laminates that are attached to them are disposable.

Lidia in our Estate Management Team had the idea to contact Glastonbury who kindly supplied 1000 ponchos which have been donated to 5 local Gloucestershire GP surgeries.

Our librarian Donna is busy sewing laundry bags for nurses at her local hospital.

The wider KHS community has come to support the task and we are grateful to our supplier Karndean for their donation of face masks.

Community spirit is alive and well at KHS as we encourage everyone to think creatively and lend support.
