4th Form Trip to See Macbeth

On Tuesday, most of the fourth form went to see a production of Macbeth at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham. Put on by the Watermill Theatre Ensemble, the production blazed with tension and energy as famous scenes and soliloquys were delivered within the modern-day setting of an army bunker.

The Macbeths’ desperation and greed were reflected in songs by Johnny Cash, The Rolling Stones, The xx and others - a musical element that took a slight edge off the heavy darkness of Shakespeare’s Scottish play.

The pupils enjoyed the modern adaptation and found it satisfying to recognise Shakespeare’s metaphors and dramatic irony onstage.
