CCF Celebrates Success with Regimental Dinner

Last Friday, Kingham Hill’s Combined Cadet Force (CCF) held its Regimental Dinner, a spectacular occasion celebrating the achievements of Cadets and all those who support the corps. The event was attended by a number of special guests, including serving parents from the British and US forces, serving Hillian Second Lieutenant Felix Parkinson, and the evening’s principal guest, Lieutenant Colonel Vicky Roberts of the Royal Engineers.

Cadets enjoyed an evening of conversation, laughter, and fine dining. A highlight was an inspiring speech from Lt Col Roberts, who shared insights from her military career, detailing how she rose through the ranks, despite setbacks, and the pivotal role her faith played throughout her journey.

This half term has been packed with challenge and achievement for Kingham Hill cadets. Senior cadets took part in the Head of Corps Selection Board, presenting their ideas on current military issues and proposals to improve the CCF. Following their presentations and overall contributions to the corps, Warrant Officer Class 2 Jones, was appointed Head of Corps, Colour Sergeant Marshall, became Head of Army, and Flight Sergeant Palmer was appointed Head of RAF.

Earlier in the term, the Army South East Engagement Team visited, putting cadets through a series of demanding military challenges, from plank crossings over “toxic waste” and navigating landmines in the dark, to rigorous fitness exercises. Senior cadets also participated in a 24-hour overnight exercise on the Hill, executing casualty evacuations, ambushes, and enemy building clearances, before camping under bashers and cooking rations under the stars. The following morning, cadets patrolled through the woods and completed a final simulated mission to secure victory.

Additionally, a group of cadets undertook the Snowdonia Peaks Challenge, hiking through valleys and climbing some of the tallest peaks in Snowdonia National Park. They tested their endurance, teamwork, and resilience while enjoying breathtaking views and the challenges of the rugged terrain.

With a combination of tactical exercises, adventurous challenges, and leadership opportunities, this half term has already showcased the skill, determination, and commitment of our Kingham Hill cadets, reflecting the very best of the CCF experience.
