Celebrating Girls in Sport

“Girls who play sports become women who lead.” (@sportsfoodandmentalhealth)

The 5th of February marks National Women and Girls in Sport Day, a perfect opportunity to celebrate the empowering role that sport plays in the lives of our girls.

At Kingham Hill, our vision for sport is grounded in the belief that sport is about more than just physical activity - it’s about equipping our pupils to flourish. Whether on the pitch, in adult sport clubs, or in life beyond the Hill, we aim to nurture young people who excel in all areas, using the skills and confidence they gain through sport.

Studies show that female secondary school sports players are more likely to pursue higher education and complete their degrees. In fact, 94% of women who have reached Chief Executive Officer position have played sports, and senior business women are 75% more likely to hire candidates with a sports background.

Something special happens when girls play sport. They don’t just experience the joy of winning but also the critical lesson of losing well. It’s this process - carrying on, facing setbacks, and clearing hurdles - that builds true resilience and confidence. This resilience, developed through sport, is invaluable in every aspect of life. It’s not only an essential part of work ethic but also serves as an incredible foundation for leadership.

Sport is at the heart of a Kingham girl's experience. We champion team sports throughout their time here and seek to inspire our leavers of all abilities to stay active, whatever their next chapter may be.

As we celebrate National Women and Girls in Sport Day, let’s continue to encourage our girls to embrace the transformative power of sport.
