Duke of Edinburgh Expedition

Last weekend,  23 members of our 5th Form completed their Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh expeditions.  These were originally planned for the summer term but were postponed.

Slight changes have been made to the rules which allow for expeditions to proceed without the requirement to camp, and so the pupils relished the chance to undertake a relatively normal activity in a time when so many things are currently on hold due to Covid restrictions.

With just 3 weeks to prepare, all of the pupils showed great enthusiasm and initiative to be ready to depart on Friday morning for two days of walking through the Cotswolds, starting and finishing each day on school site.

The teams were thankful for fine weather on both days which gave pupils the chance to enjoy exploring the countryside, improve their navigation as a team and cook a meal on individual Trangia stoves on Friday evening.

A big thank you to Mr Savage, Mrs Heywood-Lonsdale, Mr McFarlane, Mr Osborne and Miss St John for their help in supervising and assessing groups during the two days.
