To round off the first half of Trinity Term, the Lower Sixth took part in a dedicated Higher Education and Destinations Day, encouraging them to start thinking broadly and ambitiously about their next steps.
Expertly led by Mrs Berkeley, the day began with a comprehensive seminar introducing pupils to the wide spectrum of post-school pathways available to them. From studying at universities in the UK and abroad to pursuing apprenticeships, joining the armed forces, or entering directly into professional industries, the session encouraged pupils to consider both traditional and alternative routes. Discussions also touched on the importance of aligning future choices with personal strengths, interests, and long-term goals.
In the afternoon, the focus shifted to practical preparation. Pupils began drafting their personal statements — a key element of university and apprenticeship applications, with support to help them reflect on their experiences, ambitions, and achievements. There was also a targeted session covering the UCAS application process, offering insights into timelines, course research, and decision-making.
Meanwhile, pupils enrolled in the American Program received bespoke support from Mr Furst focused on navigating the American college admissions process. Mr Furst gave guidance on preparing for standardised tests, compiling strong applications, and understanding the Common App and financial aid systems.
The day served not only as a springboard for the beginning of the Lower Sixth’s journey into life after Kingham Hill, but also as a reminder of the exciting and varied opportunities that lie ahead for them.
