Junior Girls (1st, 2nd & 3rd Form)

Due to Covid restrictions this year saw the 1-3rd form pupils competing in the Greenwich tutor groups, with the 3rd form girls returning to represent their tutor groups for one last time. This competition saw all 3 years competing for the first time on a full sized pitch with 11 aside teams and the girls did well to adapt their play to suit this large area. Although tendencies were to gather together, there were some fantastically effective passes that spanned the width of the pitch. With some excellent play from Harriet Hunt (2nd form), Sophia (1st form) and Alice Bratt (3rd form) these were close and competitive games. The highlight of the tournament was the Falcons comeback early in the 2nd half with a strong attack and the resulting goal putting pressure on the Gators to press harder.

Inter Girls (4th Form)

Durham, Severn and Latimer played a round robin tournament where every girl played at least one match for their house. It was a closely fought competition with some excellent hockey being played - it is hard to believe that with Covid 19, the girls have lacked match practice this term; the quality of play and the competitiveness were excellent. Beyond this, the spirit in which the games were played stood out – the girls were well organised, serious about performing well, encouraging and respectful to all their opponents and enthusiastic and cheerful throughout.

  • Severn v Durham: 1-4
  • Latimer v Durham: 2-0
  • Latimer v Severn: 1-1
  • Latimer – Won 1, Drew 1 = 5 points (1st place)
  • Durham – Won 1, Lost 1 = 4 points (2nd)

Senior Girls (5/6th Form)

It was a joy to watch these girls play hockey together, although they were downhearted that fixtures were cancelled they really enjoyed being able to play in their houses to add a bit of competition and fun. Each team played with full enthusiasm and put all their effort into working together. The girls encouraged one another within their teams but were also very supportive to the other houses. Each player, especially in Latimer gave their best until the very end. The player of the match was Lilly-Rose Taee for Durham, Laura Chapel for Latimer, and Katy Cowls for Severn.

Durham and Latimer played first with Durham coming away with a convincing win. Severn and Durham played next and it was a thrilling 4-3 victory to Severn with a goal in the final minute scored by Heather. It was all to play for in the final game between Severn and Latimer. Both teams played hard right until the final whistle but Severn came away with the victory crowning them Inter-house hockey champions 2020.

Rugby

Junior Boys (1st & 2nd Form)

The house competition took on the format of a variety of activities : skills, fitness, kicking, rugby volleyball, 2 x 5-a-side touch rugby matches and 1 x 8-a-side touch rugby match. Every boy in Plymouth and Clyde participated with everyone’s scores counting. Results:

  • The team relay was a DRAW
  • The kicking skill was a DRAW
  • The fitness section was won by PLYM
  • The rugby volleyball was won by CLYDE
  • Plym and Clyde won one match each (Touch rugby) in the 5-a-side games
  • Clyde won the 8-a-side (Touch rugby) full pitch, longer match

Junior Boys (3rd Form)

*Due to ‘bubble’ restrictions, sadly the 3rd Form could not play with the 4th form as usual.  The option left was an internal year group competition but this unfortunately was deemed to be too one sided that even with alterations and conditions provided, it would not have been beneficial for pupils.

Inter Boys (4th & 5th Form)

Whilst the Inters Inter-House competition lacked the physicality of full contact rugby this year, it certainly didn’t lack energy, enthusiasm or drive. The Round Robin - Ready4Rugby format allowed for very competitive games, where every House played each other - giving their absolute best in every game. The Day Houses, with a bigger pool of players to draw on tended to fare better - Havelock 1st and Woodstock 2nd, but despite the smaller numbers in the Boarding Houses, each House threw everything at their games. The friendly rivalry and sportsmanlike approach stood out. Well done to all who took part!

Results:

  • Havelock won 4 games (12 points) 1st place
  • Woodstock won 2, drew 1, lost 1 (9 points) 2nd place
  • Bradford  won 2, lost 2 (8 points) 3rd place
  • Sheffield  won 1, lost 3 (6 points) 4th place
  • Norwich drew 1, lost 3 (5 points) 5th place

Senior Boys (6th form)

The Senior Inter-House rugby was a fantastic opportunity to see competition taking place on the Kingham Hill pitches once more. The Ready4Rugby match rules mean that matches are high scoring and fast-paced which definitely tested the commitment and determination of all of the players involved.

The U6th players showed excellent fortitude and did a great job of leading by example; there were also some outstanding displays of individual flair and talent. Although each game was extremely closely contested it was Havelock that eventually emerged victorious, with special mention going to James Welch, Jamie Bastable and Will Evans for their passion and will to win.

Results:

  • Havelock 12 points
  • Bradford 9 points
  • Woodstock 8 points
  • Norwich 7 points
  • Sheffield 5 points
