Learning about Environmental Management

On Monday, our Lower Sixth Geographers visited the river Evenlode where they participated in a range of hands-on practical activities designed to deepen their understanding of hydrology and environmental management techniques.

The pupils began by studying the physical characteristics of the river channel, learning how to measure attributes such as channel width, depth, and flow velocity. Their exploration continued with an examination of infiltration rates across different land use types. They went on to test the water quality by measuring phosphate and nitrate levels.

The day concluded with a visit to Cornwell and FarmED to observe a range of natural flood management schemes.

It was a really useful day of practical learning, providing an opportunity for our pupils to observe real-world applications of environmental management. The experience enabled them to develop valuable skills and knowledge that will serve them well in their future studies and careers.
