Lower Sixth Geographers Contribute to National Research Project

On Monday 28th April, the Lower Sixth Geography cohort donned their wellies to take part in a national citizen science research project, investigating the health of our rivers and streams.

Starting at Farm ED, a local and leading centre for agroecological education, the group gathered baseline data which indicated a healthy river ecosystem. With this knowledge, they were then able to sample and compare data from the rivers Eye, Dikler, Windrush and Evenlode.

At each site the pupils measured phosphate, nitrate, pH, temperature, velocity and carried out an abundance count of invertebrates. The data has since been uploaded to a national database for further analysis. We look forward to seeing the report!
