MedSoc - Life as a Medical Student

In our latest MedSoc event, Hillian, Stacie Adjetey (leaver in 2020) delivered a talk to our current pupils about her life as a medical student and the process of gaining admission onto her university course.

Stacie is currently in the 4th year of her Medicine Degree at Queen Mary University in London, and on clinical placement at Barts and The London Hospital.

Stacie talked about how she prepared her application for her degree, sharing her insight into the importance of a personal statement and practising for admissions interviews. She advised the pupils to work with their teachers, highlighting that the support she received at Kingham Hill helped her tremendously. One particular aspect that Stacie touched on was the quality of self-reflection – something she believes is fundamental to her success to date. She spoke about how she is regularly asked to reflect on her work and her studies as she aims to continually improve her skills as a trainee doctor.

Our pupils asked her about her life at university and Stacie detailed her pathway from her first year to the present, describing her daily routines and discussing the experiences she has had working across a diverse range of wards and departments whilst on placement.

It was an extremely valuable session for all those who attended, providing them with a first-hand insight into life as a medical student and the dedication required to succeed.
