Oxford School of Drama Workshop

On Thursday 6th February, 5th Form GCSE Drama and BTEC Performing Arts pupils enjoyed a fantastic workshop with Seamus Allen, Head of Foundation Courses at the prestigious Oxford School of Drama.

The session was packed with engaging exercises, offering a real insight into the training required for a career in the performing arts. Pupils explored a range of techniques, learning valuable skills and building confidence.

A particular highlight of the workshop was a high-energy, amped-up version of 'Rock, Paper, Scissors', which had everyone laughing and participating enthusiastically. Another favourite activity involved improvisation. Lower Sixth Performing Arts pupil, Ethan, explained the concept of the game: “The point of “Objects” was to use your imagination to create an object in your hands. You would then give that person the object and they would have to tell you a story that relates to the object while also sounding personal to the person holding the object. This helped us with using our imagination to create a whole new world in our hands.”

Ethan continued, “My favourite thing about studying Performing Arts is that I get to express myself for who I am without the worry of people looking down on me. Drama for me is an escape from reality into a world that can be created right at my fingertips. I find Performing Arts to be a very creative and active subject where anything is possible as long as we have our minds and imagination at our disposal.”

“The pupils gained so much from Seamus's expertise and we're incredibly grateful for this opportunity. It was a truly inspiring experience for all involved!” commented Head of Drama, Mrs Sawford.
