Pre-season rugby camp

This week, the pre-season rugby camp has been running on the Hill. This has been a four day residential camp for 20 boys from across 5th and 6th form run by the Director of Rugby Lynn Evans and the Head of Rugby Tom Phillips, with a mixture of internal and external coaches.

On Tuesday the camp was joined by Matt Carter and Rob Millar, from Stow-on-the-Wold RFC, and Richard Whincup, the English Universities and Jamaican Olympic Team kicking coach. Tuesday began with an early morning fitness assessment and a visit from Harry Jones, the Community Development Coach from Gloucester RFC. The camp will end with a fantastic opportunity to visit the Gloucester training set-up at Hartpury College on Friday.

Throughout the week the "Plaisir Du Mouvement" philosophy that is embedded in Kingham Rugby has led to a huge amount of improvement among the players and a lot of laughs along the way.

By taking training away from structured drills, coaches have been able to challenge the players, making them play a vital part in their own development. It has been particularly pleasing to see the senior players taking leading roles within the squad training and certainly paves the way for what should be a very exciting season with a return to competitive fixtures post-COVID.
