Rugby players at Kingham Hill have enjoyed a standout end to term, delivering strong performances both on home turf and at one of the country’s most prestigious school tournaments.
On Wednesday 18th March, Kingham Hill hosted its annual Rugby Sevens tournament, welcoming a number of regional schools for a day of competitive rugby played in glorious sunshine. Both the 1st and 2nd VII squads took to the field to showcase their talent.
The 2nd VII produced a series of spirited performances against strong opposition, including Bloxham, Rendcomb and Cotswold School, narrowly missing out on a place in the semi-finals despite playing some impressive rugby.
Meanwhile, the 1st VII enjoyed an outstanding run through the group stages with convincing victories over local rivals including Chipping Norton and Sibford. Their momentum carried them into a dramatic semi-final against Cotswold School, where a closely fought contest saw Kingham pull ahead late in the second half to secure a place in the final.
In a thrilling rematch against Warwick School, the Kingham side delivered a determined performance but ultimately finished as runners-up after a hard-fought game.
Staff and pupils praised the event as a great success, with thanks extended to organisers Director of Sport, Mr Juckes and Sports Teacher, Mr Barber, as well as referees and supporters who contributed to a memorable day of rugby.
The action continued the following week at the renowned Rosslyn Park National Schools Sevens, where Kingham Hill once again rose to the occasion.
The 1st VII delivered one of the highlights of the tournament with a remarkable comeback victory over Ratcliffe College, overturning a 19–0 deficit to secure an impressive win that demonstrated resilience and teamwork.
The Inters squad also impressed, battling cold conditions while embracing the unique atmosphere of the competition and gaining valuable experience against high-quality opposition.
Across both tournaments, Kingham Hill’s Rugby Sevens programme demonstrated not only skill and determination, but also the strong team spirit that underpins sport at the school. The performances mark a fitting conclusion to a successful season and provide a strong foundation for future competitions.
