'Schools Challenge'

Kingham Hill Second in Oxfordshire

The success of general knowledge quizzing at Kingham Hill continues after a close-fought set of regional heats in the nationwide competition, 'Schools Challenge'. The competition consists of twenty-minute quizzes on buzzers, following the traditional rules of University Challenge.

The hosts, Abingdon School, were formidable opposition and came out on top: they will progress to play in the next round of the competition. Here are the results:

1st Team Competition:
Abingdon School 1st IV 960
Kingham Hill School 1st IV 480

Kingham Hill School 1st IV 360
Our Lady’s Abingdon 1st IV 350

Abingdon’s Firsts beat Our Lady’s Abingdon’s Firsts in their match.

2nd Team Competition:
Our Lady’s Abingdon 1st IV 350
Kingham Hill School 2nd IV 220

Kingham Hill School 2nd IV 370 Abingdon School 2nd IV 330

The two Kingham Hill sides performed well, both winning one match. Our first team beat Our Lady’s Abingdon to secure the plate position in the county, despite a rather depleted field of teams this year.

The School has taken part in Schools Challenge for the past seven years and regularly finishes in the top three in the county. It is a testament to the excitement generated by the weekly Quiz Club activity on Thursday afternoons and the annual Inter-House Challenge competition. The teams are coached by our own general knowledge quizzer, Mr Williams, who has known success on Fifteen-to-One, University Challenge, The Chase and Mastermind, where he reached the Grand Final in 2015.
