4th Form pupils enjoyed an unforgettable visit to the University of Warwick’s Arts Centre for the GCSE Science in Action event on Tuesday 27th January. From the moment they arrived, pupils were immersed in a programme of dynamic, high-energy talks delivered by leading scientists and science communicators.
Pupils explored the astonishing world of nanotechnology with Dr Jamie Gallagher, discovering how materials can behave in mind-bending ways at the tiniest scales. A journey into the future of fusion energy with engineer Leah Morgan revealed how scientists are working to recreate the power of the Sun here on Earth. They were equally captivated by planetary scientist Sheila Kanani MBE, who shared how space science shaped her career and opened doors to exciting opportunities within the space industry.
After lunch, pupils received practical advice to support exam success before diving into neuroscience with Ginny Smith’s interactive exploration of what makes each of us unique. The day concluded with Greg Foot’s fascinating insight into cutting-edge rainforest research and global conservation efforts, leaving pupils inspired by the real-world impact of science.
This visit marks the first event linked to Kingham Hill’s Science Week 2026, an annual celebration of questioning and discovery. Guided by this year’s theme, “Curiosity… what’s your question?” pupils across the school will be encouraged to think critically, ask bold questions, and explore how science connects to the wider world through a range of engaging activities taking place from Friday 6th to 13th February.
