Friday 13th June, saw the Performing Arts Centre come alive with infectious energy as pupils delivered an evening of performances at this year’s Speech and Drama Concert.
Directed by Mrs Phillips, the concert showcased a range of LAMDA examination pieces and dramatic recitals. From classic literature to contemporary monologues, the audience was treated to scenes that evoked laughter, goosebumps, and even a few tears.
The night opened with a magical adaptation of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, performed by Fifi, Jemima, Eliora, Sam, and Arthur. The cast transported the audience to Narnia, setting the tone for a night filled with dramatic flair.
Highlights included Tamsin’s performance of Everything, Everything, and Ollie’s engaging portrayal of Roshi from Wonder Boy, while Mikayla delivered two striking solo performances as the troubled Maggie in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof and Andromache in the tragic climax of The Women of Troy. Each piece was delivered with maturity and sensitivity beyond her years.
From the chilling rhythms of Green Beret to the comic genius of A Bit of Fry and Laurie, there was something for everyone. The performers demonstrated a wide emotional range and technical skill, underpinned by weeks of dedicated rehearsal under the guidance of Mrs Phillips.
Behind the scenes, the concert was expertly supported by Mr Alex Jones on lighting and sound, with additional help from 3rd Form pupil, Molly.
The Speech and Drama Concert continues to be a highlight in the school calendar, and this year’s performances reaffirmed the value of the arts in developing confidence and thoughtfulness.
