Sports Day

Unlike previous Sports Days, the morning rain had little impact on this year's event, with even the heaviest downpours failing to dampen the spirits of our pupils. Eager to compete and win points for their houses and with the rallying calls of houseparents ringing in their ears, the day began. Almost at once, results came thick and fast, with times and distances finding their way onto Mr Blackie's spreadhseet. Staff sifted through the many hours of videos sent in by competitors, ensuring the strict rules of each event were being followed. And in typical sports day fashion, Mr Williams endured all that a British summer could throw at him, as he regularly updated the school on current standings and notable performances from the comfort of his own back garden.

It was wonderful to see so many great performances with Charlie Megson's Toilet Roll Shotput of 27.33m (see below), Harriet Hunt's Toilet Roll Discus of 20m and Kiana Mitchell's 40 full press ups in 2 minutes, just three of the impressive videos submitted.

With participation earning valuable points, the junior girls lead the way with by far the highest participation rate among the other houses. The inspirational use of a whatsapp group to drive group morale and teamwork led to the Falcons topping the 'involvement leaderboard' with a whopping 98% participation rate from every member in every activity. In second place was another junior girls team, the Ozzys, with the Havelock senior boys coming a close third.

Following the excitement of the day, the results were collated and the winning houses announced during Friday morning's chapel.

The Victor Ludorum and Victrix Ludorum awards for each of the junior, inter and senior age group categories, were awarded to individual pupils who gained the highest placings in the greatest number of events over the course of the day. For house standings and all Victor Ludorum and Victrix Ludorum awards, please watch the Sports Day results video below.

Once again, a huge thank you goes to the staff for enabling the day to go ahead, to the pupils for jumping, sprinting and throwing toilet rolls around your house, garden and local parks, and an even bigger thank you to you parents and guardians for putting up with the mess and upheaval caused by these sports day antics.

We hope you enjoyed the day.
