Spring Arrivals at Kingham Hill Farm

Spring is officially in the air at Kingham Hill’s Farm, where our Animal Management pupils have been celebrating the arrival of two adorable kid goats on Monday 23rd March. Lunar, one of our resident goats, is proving to be an attentive mother, while our pupils have been involved in supporting her and caring for the new arrivals.

Sadly, another of our goats lost her offspring this year, but the farm team and pupils have rallied together to ensure the wellbeing of all animals during this busy season.

The birth of the kids provides a unique opportunity for pupils studying Animal Management to gain hands-on experience, applying the skills and knowledge they develop in the classroom to real-life situations. From monitoring the health of the newborns and their mother to assisting with feeding and husbandry, pupils are learning the practical aspects of animal care that underpin a career in the sector.

The Animal Management qualifications offered at Kingham Hill are designed to equip pupils with the expertise needed for careers in agriculture, veterinary support, and wildlife management, giving them a head start in an increasingly diverse and rewarding industry.

Alongside the vocational qualification, Kingham Hill’s farm has long been an integral part of the school’s co-curricular programme, offering all pupils a chance to work with and enjoy a range of animals including goats, sheep, poultry, and more.

As spring continues at Kingham Hill, the farm will remain a hub of learning and activity, with pupils enjoying the invaluable experience of caring for animals.
