Kingham Hill have competed in the first matches of this year’s national Schools Challenge quiz competition. The tournament works very much like University Challenge, with teams answering “Starters for ten” and bonus questions. We have four teams in the competition this year: 1st IV, 2nd IV, U15 IV and U13 IV. So far, we have played two matches with two more to come next week.
The U13 IV played well against Nottingham High School but lost 590-330 in a high-scoring match. There is much potential in the side for the future and they should not be disheartened: they were ably captained by Lucy.
Last Monday, the 1st IV played against Gresham’s School, a well-known boarding school in Norfolk. Our team won 250-150, with a splendid all-round performance from the team: Amelie (captain), James, Ethan and Millie. They go through to the second round, with their next match to be played in the New Year.
Next week, the 2nd IV will play Hurstpierpoint College in East Sussex and the U15 IV have a fixture against The Perse School in Cambridge.
All these matches have taken place in a new online format which has meant that our teams have been able to play against teams we would not normally have encountered. We look forward to hearing more positive news about our teams’ performance in the weeks to come.
