Studying Shakespeare in Stratford

As 2nd Form begin their English studies on Twelfth Night, they have been immersing themselves in all things Shakespeare. On Thursday 16th January, a trip to the Bard’s birth and burial place, Stratford-upon-Avon, was in order.

Following a tour of significant locations in Shakespeare’s life, led by former Shakespeare guide, Head of Drama, Mrs Sawford, in the afternoon, at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, pupils thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to watch the current RSC production of the play. Being able to watch the plot unfold between twins Viola and Sebastian, Duke Orsino, and Countess Olivia, left them with a new appreciation of the playwright and the power of live theatre.

Pupil, Bodhi, commented “I learned that Shakespeare's second house was demolished because there were too many visitors. My favourite part of the day was seeing the performance itself; it helped me to see how the individual acts come together.”
