On Sunday 11th May, Team KHS proudly took part in the Bidwells Oxford 10K, running in support of 5th Form pupil Meriel and the MAP Nemaline Fund at Muscular Dystrophy UK. Pupils, parents, and staff, alongside Meriel’s friends and family, came together to run and cheer for a cause close to their hearts.
Houseparent and Head of Wellbeing, Mr Tim Martin, reflected: “It was incredible to see so many runners and supporters at the event! Together, we have so far raised £2,725 — almost three times our original target.”
The Kingham Hill community hopes that by raising awareness of nemaline myopathy, it will be possible to directly fund research that can make that uphill battle for children diagnosed with nemaline myopathy in future generations, a little easier.
In the past decade, significant strides have been made in the understanding and discovery of the various genes that cause the condition. However, gene therapy is still in its early stages, and continued research is essential to turning scientific promise into real-world solutions.
As part of its commitment to making a difference, Kingham Hill School has chosen Muscular Dystrophy UK as its ‘Charity of the Year,’ ensuring that all fundraising efforts throughout September 2024 to September 2025, will support this crucial cause. Next month, a 24 hour football match will continue the fundraising momentum!
