Our Year 11 pupils have received their GCSE examination paper and have started to research their ideas. To help them get started, the Art Department spent a day visiting some of the London Galleries to find some inspiration.
The group had a very full day, starting with the Royal Academy, where they visited "From Life", an exhibition tracking the development of Life Drawing from its formal beginnings in the 19th Century right up until the most recent responses using virtual reality to produce images. Pupils particularly enjoyed creating their own virtual drawings wearing a full head set.
They then stopped at the Barbican Centre to see the experimental work of Street Artist, Jean-Michel Basquiat followed by a visit to the National Gallery, where pupils were able to gather ideas from more traditional sources, such as the Impressionists, Leonardo da Vinci and Raphael.
All of the Year 11s enjoyed their cultural day out and they behaved impeccably. We are now hoping that the work they have experienced will feed into their examination preparation. Good luck all!
