This weekend, the Kingham Hill Racing team raced at Whilton Mill Kart Circuit. It was a cold, early start, but everyone kitted up, got their karts ready and at 9:30am the practice races started with the first race of the day starting an hour later.
In race 1, Caye (Class 7) was able to gain a couple positions to finish in 6th place. In race 2 he was unfortunately hit from the side causing him to spin off the track leaving him in 13th place. However, when it came to race 3 he started in 2nd on the grid and instantly got himself to 1st place and raced defensively which led to his first ever win in class 7! In race 4 he finished 7th leaving him in 5th place overall out of 25 drivers.
Ollie (class 11) had a series of exciting races. In race 1 he took the chequered flag to win his first race! Two 2nd place finishes in races 2 and 3 saw him secure 2nd place overall for the day - his best kart day ever!
Oli (class 12) had a bit of a disappointing start to his day coming 8th in his first race and then having an incident with another driver resulting in damage to his kart which caused him to finish 9th. Oli however regained his confidence and raced more aggressively coming 3rd in his last race and 7th overall for the meet.
Thomas (class 12) posted consistent lap times but experimented with his setup in a bid to improve performance for overtaking. After a few sprocket changes, he put in a strong performance on the last race to finish 2nd, with a 4th place overall.
Fraser (class 4) came 4th in his three races with his confidence growing with every one.
Thomas (class 14) is still loving the TKM engine and the weekend went mostly to plan. The fourth race however was a disaster as the engine didn’t start but 1st place in other races meant he came away with the class 14 trophy.
Thomas (class 15) had some good finishes and came 5th overall.
Lukas (class 15) managed two 1st place finishes, a 2nd and a 13th due to an unfortunate penalty. But, the penalty didn't stop him and, in the end, he was able to win class 15!
Jamie had a good day coming 6th overall. In his second race he reached the front mid-way through the first lap, only for someone to knock him off the track. He rejoined in 20th place and in an amazing recovery drive gained 11 places to finish 9th. The final race was also a nail-biter, with Jamie finishing 5th with just 4.5 seconds separating 2nd and 6th place.
Overall, it was a fantastic day for the team and we are all looking forward to our next race day at Bayford Meadows in two weeks' time.
