Sports

Sport at Kingham Hill is packed with opportunities for every pupil, at every level.

We equip pupils to flourish in sport, through sport, and for life beyond the Hill. Whether representing the first team or achieving personal bests, we strive for high performance. However, flourishing goes beyond results. Sport shapes character through building resilience and leadership skills that will serve our pupils long after the final whistle blows.

At Kingham, we want every young person to leave with a lifelong love of sport, ready to step into university teams or adult clubs, and take on new challenges with the confidence that they belong. As a small school, we know each athlete as an individual, coaching with care, ambition and purpose.

Rugby

Our coaching philosophy draws from the 'Plaisir Du Mouvement' style which uses gameplay to embody tactical and technical development.

Hockey

We challenge our players to think for themselves and create an environment in which senior players can become leaders.

Football

We encourage intelligent, creative play, using small-sided games and match scenarios to develop technical ability, tactical awareness and teamwork.

Netball

Our programme focuses on game understanding and communication, empowering players to make confident decisions under pressure.

Cricket

Cricket is very much at the heart of summer on the Hill, with teams at each age group playing competitive fixtures each week. 1st XI games always attract a crowd, with the beautiful backdrop of Cotswolds countryside from the Benfield Pavilion.

Cricket at the younger level focuses on participation and enjoyment, building fundamental skills and movements, with as many as possible representing the school in weekly fixtures. Senior cricketers net throughout the winter, making use of our bowling machine and expert coaching to hone technique, ready for the start of the season.

The Barings XI - named after the school’s founder - is a team consisting of staff and Sixth Formers who play every Wednesday evening against local club sides or invitational XI’s. Our impressive cricketing facilities make us the home of Oxfordshire county age groups, and several pupils have gone on to represent county sides in recent years.

Facilities

Opened in 2020, Kingham Hill's Sports Centre boasts a full-size sports hall, squash court, 7.5m high climbing wall, and classrooms. Hear it from our Hillians...

Joe (Norwich, 2021-25)

"What stands out about sport at Kingham is the atmosphere, both in training and on match days. Everyone is competitive and wants to win, but there's also real kindness and respect. People support each other, even if you're new to a sport or still learning - it gives everyone the chance to grow in confidence and flourish as part of the team."

Summer (Latimer, 2018-25)

"When I arrived at Kingham, squad sport wasn’t something I looked forward to. But Kingham changed that for me. It started with hockey - even though I wasn’t the most confident player, I was still given the chance to play, because here, sport is accessible for everyone, whatever your ability."

Emily (Severn, 2021-25)

"You should chose Kingham
because it’s small enough that you’re never just a number. The coaches really get to know you - your strengths, your potential, and where you can improve. You get proper, individual attention that helps you develop both your game and your confidence."

Herbie, Upper Sixth

"Sport at Kingham Hill has taught me loads about handling pressure and difficult situations - whether that's on the pitch or in life. My fitness and confidence have grown, but probably the biggest thing is learning to step up as a leader and back myself under pressure."
