Durham

Hello and welcome to Durham House! I’m Mrs Jones, the Houseparent, alongside my husband (who also teaches here) and our two boys, Sam and Harry. We have been at Kingham Hill since Christmas 2023 and are still enjoying getting to know the beautiful Cotswolds, having moved from Sheffield where we lived for many years.

I am enjoying looking after the lovely ladies of Durham, as well as teaching English, both of which keep me busy! Our family loves to be outdoors; walking, cycling and camping, and we love the open spaces on the Hill. I also love reading, craft, games and especially baking, so we always celebrate birthdays with cake.

We know that it can be a big change leaving home to come and share life in a boarding house and we believe that a family setting is the best environment for pupils to grow and thrive. We want to make Durham feel like home and to build relationships that feel like ‘family’. It’s important that each girl is known and cared for individually and that the boarding house is a place to relax and be nurtured. Our Matron and Tutors are a big part of this also.

As well as growing academically, we love to support the girls all to develop in character too. We want Durham to be a place where each girl develops individually and works collectively to create a positive atmosphere where there is mutual respect and kindness.

We hope that they find Durham to be a place of safety, security and encouragement where they are loved, accepted and reminded of their enormous worth and value. We also hope that it is a place where they continue to grow and develop, to become all that they can be.
