Plymouth
Hi, I’m David. My wife, Kim, and I — along with our two lively daughters, Flora and Willow, have been part of the Kingham Hill community since 2022, and I have the privilege of serving as Houseparent of Plymouth House.
We’re originally from South Africa, and even after living in the UK for over 11 years, we still hang on to a few of our traditions — like braai’ing (barbecuing) in winter... as long as it’s not raining! Hospitality is a big part of who we are, and there’s always room at our table.
As a family, we love being outdoors. Hiking, camping, and spending holidays surrounded by mountains and lakes are some of our favourite ways to recharge and connect.
Before stepping into boarding life, I worked for a decade in the Supply Chain industry. Kim is deeply committed to her work in social and economic development, especially in helping underserved communities across low- and middle-income countries. As for our girls, they’re full of energy and adventure, and usually climbing something they probably shouldn’t be!
At Plymouth House, respect is one of our guiding values. We encourage the boys to respect themselves, one another, the House, and each other’s belongings. But beyond that, our goal is to create a strong sense of brotherhood — a real home, where the boys look out for each other, share the ups and downs of life, and learn the value of community.
We build that sense of connection through shared experiences — movie nights, watching sports together, and heading out for weekend adventures. More importantly, we make it our mission to ensure every boy feels seen, known, and valued here.
We know boarding can be a big adjustment, whether it’s a completely new experience or something familiar. Either way, we’re here to help make the transition to secondary school smooth, welcoming, and full of support, thanks to our fantastic House team.
We’re really looking forward to welcoming your son into Plymouth House.
