In the Sixth Form
Wellbeing
A pupil’s personal development goes hand in hand with their wellbeing. Every Sixth Former, whether day or boarding, is part of a small house in which they have both a Houseparent and tutor who monitor their progress and ensure they are well and happy. The Head of Sixth also can be found in and among the Sixth Form at all times, supporting and encouraging pupils in all aspects of their Sixth Form journey. As a school with a distinctively Christian ethos, we have many opportunities for pupils to seek help when they need it, either through the chaplaincy team, house staff or their teachers.
For those boarding at the school, our boarding houses are a home from home. Sixth Formers are able to cook and clean for themselves as well as support younger pupils. Excitingly, our next development is our new Sixth Form house and building that will include even more facilities and enable all Upper Sixth to live independently so as to be fully prepared for life beyond school.
Personal Development
All pupils are encouraged to step out of their comfort zone and lead in a way that is appropriate for them, whether this is in a formal or informal way, through our leadership programme. We take pupils’ personal development, inside and outside the classroom, very seriously and thus are committed to helping pupils set aspirational yet realistic goals for themselves and then hold themselves to account as they pursue these.
We help all pupils with their communication, team work and public speaking skills throughout their two years in the Sixth Form. As well as having a chance to help younger pupils in lessons, sports or activities, subject to demand and time constraints, pupils have the opportunity to take a range of additional qualifications shown below, all of which are also valuable for university entry and future employment:
- Duke of Edinburgh Award
- National Pool Lifeguard Award
- Defibrillator course
- Emergency First Aid at Work
- CCF Leadership Qualifications (and many other qualifications available through CCF)
- LAMDA Speech and Drama qualifications, taken through peripatetic lessons
- ABRSM Graded Music Performance and Music Theory awards, taken through peripatetic lessons
- Sports Coaching Awards
- TEFL qualifications
