Sixth Form subjects
Most pupils in the Sixth Form embark upon three courses, with some pupils (usually around 10% of the cohort) choosing to take four. We believe that three courses, with an EPQ, will give pupils the qualifications they need to apply to competitive universities or other opportunities; moreover, this will also allow them to stay on top of their workload whilst reading extensively around their chosen subjects. In the case of pupils who are taking four subjects but wish to stop one subject at AS level, it may be possible for AS examinations to be completed in the summer of Lower Sixth in the subject the pupil wishes to drop, but this needs to be confirmed with Mrs Berkeley first.
Kingham Hill prides itself on having a wide range of subjects on offer at Sixth Form: from the more traditional A levels like English Literature, Maths and Biology, Chemistry and Physics, to Classical Civilisations, Politics and Photography A levels. Furthermore, we also offer four more vocational courses - Cambridge Technicals and BTECs (both are the same level qualification but are run by different exam boards) in Business, Sport, Animal Management and Performing Arts. These CTechs and BTECs give pupils the same number of UCAS points as A Levels but are simply awarded differently.
We offer the Cambridge Technical Level 3 Certificate/Subsidiary Diploma in Sport and the Cambridge Technical Level 3 Extended Certificate in Business. This is assessed through a combination of examinations and portfolio work. As this is a vocational qualification rather than an A level, it is assessed predominantly through coursework. We offer the BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Performing Arts and Animal Management. Do see the table below for more information:
We are provisionally offering the following courses:
- Classical Civilisation
- Design and Technology
