Kingham Hill School

An independent, co-educational day and boarding school for pupils aged 11-18

Welcome to Kingham Hill

Kingham Hill School is an independent, co-educational, day and boarding school for pupils aged 11-18 set in 100 acres of glorious Cotswold countryside.

The best advertisements for a school are its children, and if you ask current parents why they chose Kingham Hill for their son or daughter, they invariably speak of the impression that friendly, happy, and well-balanced pupils made on them when visiting us.

We pride ourselves on our commitment to the individual. Every pupil is valued and encouraged to develop their own character and talents to the full. Confidence and maturity are nurtured by experienced academic and pastoral staff, in an atmosphere of opportunity and enquiry, with excellent structures of care in a stunning country setting.

Co-curriculum

We are proud to offer over sixty regular sports, clubs and activities that educate, enrich and engage pupils throughout the school. These activities are embedded into the school day: most of them are scheduled as an integral part of the daily timetable, towards the end of each afternoon.

Day and Boarding

Every pupil belongs to one of eleven houses that act as large, extended families. There are on average 25-30 pupils per house with a range of ages in each. We have four day and seven boarding houses which have their own inviting social lounges, games rooms and quiet rooms.

Sixth Form

The Sixth Form, we believe, allows pupils to flourish and grow with a healthy balance of focusing on academics, throwing themselves into sports and activities whilst also serving others and leading with integrity and purpose. We want pupils very much to take ownership of their programmes whilst also supporting and challenging them along the way.

School history

In the early days the school was a virtually self-sufficient community. It had a farm, a wide range of workshops, a school building, a chapel, a sanatorium and various boarding houses. The Founder ensured that every Kingham child learned to read and write, gained a trade and had the benefit of understanding the Christian faith.

Octagon Academic Society Annual Dinner

This year we were honoured to be joined by our Guest of Honour, Professor Kamal Mahtani from the Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine at the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Services at the University of Oxford.  A well-respected practitioner, Professor Mahtani effortlessly explained to us the importance of evidence in making decisions.  His speech was something of an eye-opener to the uninitiated: one would assume that all medical decisions are taken on the basis of evidence!  What he showed us was the benefit of taking a holistic view of all the research available on a given subject, assessing the evidence in each study against the potential for bias and ulterior motive, in order to come to the best, most informed conclusions possible.  He engaged us all thoroughly and gave us much food for thought.

Charity Quiz Night

Our Sixth Form Charity Committee put on an excellent evening's entertainment in the form of a quiz night, in support of local charity, The Branch.

Inaugural Meeting of the KHS MedSoc

We were delighted to welcome Hillian, Dr Oskar Mahony, along with his partner, Dr Vaishali Vyas, to present to pupils from all year groups at the inaugural meeting of Kingham Hill's Medical Society (MedSoc).
